In order to run The Office Manager, you must first make sure that the Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5 (MDAC 2.5) are installed. These are a set of common core functions distributed by Microsoft.
Please note that MDAC is installed automatically as part of all versions of Windows 2000. Updates to MDAC are included with Windows 2000 service packs. If your host server is running Windows 2000, you already have the Microsoft Data Access Components installed and can skip this step.
If your host server is Windows NT server, you will probably need to install MDAC 2.5. If you have an earlier version of MDAC, you will need to upgrade to version 2.5.
MDAC 2.5 can be downloaded directly from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/data. Click on the Downloads link in the contents and look for MDAC 2.5 RTM.
The Microsoft web site also includes links to version 2.6 of MDAC. If you need MDAC 2.6 for some other application, please download and install version 2.5 first, then upgrade to MDAC 2.6. This is because MDAC 2.6 does not include some of the components needed for The Office Manager to run. However, when you upgrade to MDAC 2.6, the components needed by The Office Manager are left installed and The Office Manager will still work. If your host server is running Windows 2000, you already have the Microsoft Data Access Components installed and and should not download and install any MDAC upgrade.
The Microsoft web site also has a utility that you can download to help you determine which version of MDAC is currently installed. Look for Component Checker on the Downloads page.
