SPEED Integrated PDF PrinterSPEED and all versions after adds the exciting new ability to create platform-independent Adobe® PDF files from your SPEED system printed output. This is included with every copy of SPEED. The new PDF Document Management System is available as a chargeable application working in conjunction with the new PDF printing feature. This new feature solves the increasingly common problem of interfacing with new printers that only support the Graphic Device Interface (GDI) and that do not support RAW mode. It allows you to "print" your reports to PDF files exactly as if you were sending them to a physical printer. This solution uses the freely available Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® for both viewing and printing. If 'browse' is selected for the report, the PDF report is automatically opened with the Adobe Reader for viewing and if not, it is printed to your default Windows printer. This new feature works in both GUI and text mode. The exciting new Document Management System includes an entire PDF document management solution. This management system utilizes the international PDF document standard to help bring your customers one step closer to the paperless office. The PDF document standard allows you to do the following with any stored report:
The PDF Document Management System is a set of GUI programs that run on KClient workstations and that introduce a host of new abilities. It maintains a PDF document database automatically as each document is generated including user defined security rules. It allows you to search through the PDF document database using a variety of options and search criteria and perform a wide variety of operations on the individual documents based on your security. Contact TOM Software or your local TOM VAR directly for more information on price and availability of these exciting enhancements. A Quick Overview of the Document Management Application
The PDF documents management program allows you to search for documents in the library by a number of search methods. You can select specific search criteria and have the resulting records shown in several sort orders. You can both specify starting values or limit the search results by clicking the "match" button. When the results of the search are displayed in the grid at the bottom of the form, there are several buttons to help you move around in the search results displayed. Once a list of documents is displayed, clicking anywhere on the row launches the Adobe Reader to view that document or displays the Documents properties if the user does not have the correct security rights. PDF Document Details and MaintenanceIf the current user does not have "view" rights, the "document details and maintenance" form shown below is displayed showing document information, view information and the security properties associated with the selected document. This is the same form displayed with a right click on the list of documents shown above. Depending on the security for the user, some or all of the options shown here may be unavailable.
PDF Document Security SetupThe PDF Document Security uses the existing SPEED concepts of users and groups. You can not set up any rights in which case all users have all rights or you set-up rules by user which specify what rights users and/or groups have to documents created by the user. Each time a document is created, the system copies the rules established for the user to the document. It is important to note that rules for users always override rules for groups and that changing a users rights only affects new documents – not existing ones. Existing documents can be updated using a rebuild utility.
SummaryThe PDF Document Management System allows you to easily and securely manage years’ worth of reports from your computer, as well as move them seamlessly from one computer to another. No more filing cabinets full of old reports to sort through. The PDF Document Management System is a graphical application using KClient for easy to access and intuitive use.
