Conference 98

TOM Software / NSG Dealer Conference - October 1998

flamingos.jpg (31602 bytes)After a rain and wind delay, we had our NSG dealer conference at Key West.  Here are some of the highlights from the event.

We had a look at the new NPL Roadmap and the NPL GUI and ODBC development progress.   We had a look at the KCML plans for the future and a glimpse of FourD running in a web browser and over the Internet.  Several opportunities were offered, one by Clinical Systems, our UK dealer who has potential sales of his package in the States and needs dealers here to handle it.

During the conference, we demonstrated the final version of FourD 3.0.6.  This version has substantial changes, the notes feature and the KISAM ODBC feature.   This product was released on November 30th of last year and is available now.  It requires KCML5 and modern 32 bit operating systems to run.   The release version is named 3.1.  The newly revised FourD manual is available, and can now be ordered online. The release is accompanied with a  release document outlining the changes and enhancements. If you haven’t done so yet, contact your  TOM Dealer   for KCML5 and try the new FourD 3.1.

Niakwa introduced their new release 5.0 and highlighted the improvements and features of that product.  Attendees were given a copy of the new development platform, which Niakwa calls it’s desktop.  This includes the first version of the new Windows editor.  In addition, everyone was given a copy of the new Windows 5.0 runtime for internal use.

Our main issue was how long to continue to support the SPEED product line.  We have not done any development in it for five or six years.  It is our feeling that it should die with the end of the century.  It’s replacement product has been out since 1990 and it’s had a fantastic run.  Authorized TOM Dealers may continue to sell it, but we will not support it or make any changes to it past mid year 1999.   It’s time to move on to the next generation product, FourD.

Overall it was a great experience. Thanks to all who attended!
