Confused ??Understanding the software world can be a challenge for anyone. At TOM we feel that a working knowledge of our software can be explained in this simple metaphoric manner. Since everyone is familiar with the basics of a flower garden, we came up with this to help illustrate how SPEED and applications like System 7 can work together for you. The Flower Garden.Likely you already have an idea what a flower garden might look like. However, we will start out with some rich soil possibly in planter boxes or in a designated area of the yard, ready for the diligent hands of a gardener to come and plant, in our scenario, flowers. The flowers rest on a picnic table, some already grouped together in a pre-packaged pots from the nursery in Seattle, WA., some are flowers that are available only from your local store and some are still in seed packages, yet to be developed. When the gardener decides the time is right for a flower garden, he chooses which flowers to plant and plants them in the soil. Thus a flower garden is born. The Explanation. In our story the soil is played by the SPEED Utility. It is the essential element needed for the Applications ( the flowers ) to run. The pre-packaged potted flowers conveniently grouped together represent applications like System 7, accounting, manufacturing, and distribution where the flowers are applications such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and so on, on offer by the Nursery, TOM Software and available at your local store, or your local authorized TOM Dealer. The soil, SPEED, is also a developmental environment in which ideas ( the seeds ) can be transformed into applications. Some flowers (applications) are available only at your local store, they have been created to run in SPEED often with specific niche markets in mind. The diligent Gardener of course is you! The Credits.
