Testing Results: XP SP2 and SPEED Using KCML and KPrintTo test this as an end user we downloaded the complete XP Service Pack 2 installation package (266mb) and ran the install on the KClient (workstation) computer. The XP SP2 install took a very long time (admittedly not on the fastest machine), but completed without incident. After installation, we were able to use KClient and connect without any troubles to the server on the network which had not been updated yet. Then we set up the machine as a KCML server and a KPrint server and tried connecting from another workstation. This did require adding exceptions to the Windows firewall to allow traffic on ports 515 (for KPrint), 790 (for KWeb) and 3001 (for SPEED; we specified the port in the Kerridge Service Administrator and the port number is up to you as a dealer). Other than forgetting to include the LPD=Y clause on the printer $DEVICE statement, there was no trouble using the XP SP2 machine as either a client or a server, with or without KPrint. Currently a number of other dealers have reported no issues on installing XP SP2. |
